The Sofia airport launched Tuesday 40 food and coffee vending machines – 26 on Terminal Two and 14 on Terminal One.
The machines were presented in person by Transport Minister, Aleksander Tsvetkov, who said that food and coffee to be sold from vending would be, most likely, the cheapest in Europe.
Coffee from the machines is priced at BGN 1.50 to BGN 2 compared to BGN 5 at coffee shops on Terminal Two, until now the only option for coffee lovers waiting for flights.
All snacks are priced at BGN 1.
The company winning bidder in the vending public tender is "Verdika." Its owner, Stanko Stanoev, informs each machine costs between BGN 7 000 and 12 000, adding he hopes to begin making profits after the 3rd year of the 5-year contract.
While at the airport, Tsvetkov also inspected security systems and announced they are top of the line, making the airport safe, and eliminating the need of additional security measures in the aftermath of news about several shipments to foreign embassies in the Greek capital Athens containing explosives.
