The Bulgarian tax authorities have not found any astonishingly luxurious properties for investigation in their raid on the Southern Black Sea coast region.
On Friday, the National Revenue Agency continued its "Operation Helicopter" for mapping out suspicious luxury properties around the country with flights over Burgas, Pomorie, Aheloy, Ravda, Nessebar, and Sunny Beach.
According to Rumen Shapov, Director of the Burgas office of the tax agency, the two helicopter flights on Friday allowed the inspectors to photograph some "nice properties" but they pale in comparison with the luxury estates seen in the outskirts of Sofia.
The most impressive luxury properties found along the Southern Black Sea coast are several gated communities in the "Paradise Bay" near Sozopol of 30 villas each. The local tax inspectors are to investigate the origin of the wealth of their owners.
Operation Helicopter has been going on for several weeks during which the tax inspectors flew over Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, and the southern "customs" town of Svilengrad, even revealing entire illegal complexes packed with luxury properties of murky businessmen, civil servants, and customs officers.
