Bulgaria's Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, declared Friday his nominee for the country's latest health minister, Stefan Konstantinov, has actually been his top choice for many months.
Borisov made the statement for the media, one day after he announced the nomination of the obstetrician from the western city of Kyustendil and Deputy President of the Bulgarian Doctors Union.
"I really, truly have been wanting him for 10 months now, but he kept declining," the PM said.
Konstantinov's nomination is expected to be voted by the Parliament next Wednesday.
The opposition - the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), and the ethnic Turkish Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) already declared non-support, saying Konstantinov has been selected to tame the looming country-wide doctors' protests and the no-confidence vote.
The right-wing Blue Coalition say they will declare their stance on the nomination after they are certain the candidate would be able to steer away from the current Health Ministry policy.
Borisov reminded that BGN 65 M will be transferred to the health care sector Friday despite the State's financial hardship.
