Several European intelligence agencies have intercepted a terror plot to launch attacks on Britain and other European countries, the British TV channel Sky News reports Wednesday, citing own sources.
According to the report, terrorists from Pakistan, believed to be connected to Al Qaeda have planned simultaneous attacks on London and several cities in France and Germany. The attacks would follow the style of those in Mumbai in November 2008, according to Sky News.
The authorities in the UK are not planning imminent arrests, but remain on high alert with elevated terror threat levels, BBC informs.
US officials declined to comment on specific plots in Europe or elsewhere but acknowledged drone strikes in Pakistan were meant to disrupt militant networks planning attacks.
According to Sky News the plan was well-thought, but still in initial stage.
In France, on Tuesday, the Eiffel Tower and the surrounding Champ de Mars park were evacuated briefly because of a bomb alert, but police failed to find any explosives.
