The efficiency of the Bulgarian judiciary and state administration still needs to be bettered, stated OLAF acting director Nicholas Ilett, while voicing an overall satisfaction at the EU anti-fraud body's work with Bulgaria.

Nicholas Ilett issued that statement in an interview for the Bulgarian National Radio, after meeting Bulgarian Minister of Interior Tsvetan Tsvetanov, who is on a round trip to meet senior officials in Brussels Monday.

Besides voicing satisfaction at "better cooperation" with Bulgarian authorities, Ilett underscored the need for more results in the fight with fraud and corruption.

He called for "organizational and legislative measures" to enable Bulgarian judicial and administrative organs to "prevent, stop, investigate and punish all cases of fraud and corruption."

Ilett pointed out in particular the Bulgarian judiciary, which according to him must be both independent and effective.

He also stressed on the vital need for a good-working state administration as a prerequisite for corruption prevention.

Ilett was confident that the Bulgarian government will continue its efforts to build up in those areas and achieve even better results.
