Brazil's outgoing President Lula da Silva has decided to skip the UN summit in New York in order to make sure that his favorite Dilma Rousseff, who is of Bulgarian origin, will win the upcoming presidential elections.

Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was supposed to travel to the USA in order to take part in the 65th session of the UN General Assembly and the UN summit on the Millenium Development Goals.

Instead, he decided to stay in Brasilia to help his nominee Rousseff with her campaign, as the Brazilian Presidential Elections are scheduled for October 3, 2010, according to a reported international media as cited by BGNES.

Brazil is represented at the UN session and summit in New York by its Foreign Minister Selsu Amorim.

Economist and politician Dilma Rousseff, whose father Petar Rousseff was a Bulgarian immigrant, is expected to win the Presidential Elections in Brazil. Rousseff is a former head of the cabinet of Lula da Silva and former minister in his administration.

She is believed to be enjoying mass public support primarily thanks to the fact that she has been endorsed and vigorously supported by the outgoing president.
