A new large group of Roma has arrived in the Romanian capital Bucharest after being deported from France, as part of the strongly criticized operation of the French authorities.

The news was reported Wednesday by the Bulgarian news agency BGNES, citing Romanian border police.

A total of 222 Roma landed in Bucharest on two charter flights from Paris and Marseille. They are quoted saying they received cash to leave France and were complaining of the lack of perspective for them in Romania.

"We do not have anything here and no chances to make a living. The French people are nice; they hand us food and clothes," a young Roma woman, who admitted she earned her money in Paris by begging, said.

Over 1 000 Roma have been expulsed from France after the authorities started their operation at the end of July.

On Tuesday, the European Commission threatened legal action against France, calling the deportations a "disgrace."
