Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has issued a special statement congratulating Bulgarians on the occasion of 125 years since September 6, 1885the day of the Unification of the Principality of Bulgaria and "Eastern Roumelia".

"I happy to congratulate you with the Day of Unification, one of the most significant victories in the new Bulgarian history; a victory that happened because the political elite, despite its ideological differences, and the society, despite its social stratification, came together looking in the same direction, and were unified in their endeavor to unite all Bulgarians in one nation-state," says Borisov's statement.

"Sometimes it is harder, sometimes it is easier – but unity is always possible. It is not necessary to remind that each of us can achieve something but only we all together can achieve what Bulgaria and Bulgarians need. Being of different opinions does not mean that the success of our nation and the dignified life of each individual cannot unite us. And as we are speaking of more statehood today, we mean having the institutions work in favor of the society, and the society being a partner of the institutions for the well-being of our country," the Prime Minister says.

He concludes by urging Bulgarians to be ambitious and to believe in the powers and success of the Bulgarian nation.

The celebrations of Bulgaria's Unification Day are traditionally held the night of September 6 in Plovdiv, the city which once was the capital of the Ottoman province of Eastern Roumelia invented by the European Great Powers at the Berlin Congress in July 1878.
