An airplane of the Scandinavian carrier SAS made an emergency landing at the airport of the Bulgarian capital Sofia late Friday.

The airport authorities inform there are no injuries in the incident. The plane had 133 passengers on board.

At 22:12 pm, the airport dispatch tower received a notification from the pilot of a McDonnell Douglas MD-82 craft of SAS airlines that one of the engines had caught fire.

The airport authorities immediately declared an alert and the rescue services were activated. The plane landed successfully and all passengers and crew were safely evacuated.

The plane was on its way from Copenhagen to the Greek islands. The passengers were put on another flight Saturday.

The SAS crew extended their gratitude to the timely and adequate reaction of the Sofia airport employees.
