Bulgarian grape growers and wine makers expect prices to go down, even lower than last season, the TV channel bTV reports.

The price reduction will reflect the trend on the global markets, the increased expenses of Bulgarian producers to store and keep unsold wine, and their need of cash for the new crop.

In addition, this year's rain and hail have damaged much of the grapes and the crop will be 30% lower, while producers are afraid half of it would enter the gray economy. For this reason, grape growers have approached the Interior and the Agriculture Ministries with the request to halt the illegal grapes sale. The police promise to monitor this year the entire process - from the vineyard to the store window.

The new season, however, looks better for the Bulgarian makers of high-quality wines. In the last few years they have created nearly 70 000 decares of their own vineyards.
