The car of the Head of the Bulgarian State Veterinary Public Health Control Directorate, Yordan Voynov, has been wrecked Monday night.

“My car has been parked at a boulevard in Sofia. Between 8:30-9:00 pm I came back and I found that the car has been wrecked,” Voynov said Tuesday in an interview for the Bulgarian National Radio and Television.

He pointed out that the goal was not a theft because his bag with documents have been there and nothing was missing.

“Everything was in place, so this must be some kind of message. I rely on the competent authorities to do their job and to establish what the reason was,” Voynov said.

His version has been supported by the Bulgarian Agriculture Minister, Miroslav Naydenov, who have arrived immediately at the scene of the incident.

Naydenov has stated that the incident could have been simply a criminal act, but in his words, there have been all the signs that its purpose actually was to intimidate Voynov.

The Agriculture Minister has also noted that he personally alarmed the Bulgarian PM Boyko Borisov and the Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov for the incident.

Voynos's car was wrecked the same day that he issued a ban on the import of meat cuttings that are intended for disposal.

The ban was part of a special police operation, which aimed at prevention of these meat cuttings to be used again and placed on the Bulgarian market. As a result, around 194 tons of meat products have been banned.

The operation triggered an open conflict between the State Veterinary Public Health Control Directorate and the affected meat producers.

However, Voynov has stated that even if the wrecking of his car has been a threat by some of the affected meat producers, he would not stop the operation.

“I do not want to guess, but if this is some sort of a message, it would not prevent me to do my job. If they did it for this purpose, they thought wrong that we would go back,” Voynov said.
