The third edition of Bulgaria's Beglika Fest launches Friday at the Golyam Beglik dam in the Western Rhodope mountains in southern Bulgaria near the town of Batak.
The event, set to last over the weekend (August 20-22), will host multiple events in an environment set to emphasize the opportunities for peaceful interaction between nature and humans.
The mission of Beglika Fest is to raise awareness and open our eyes to ways to consume responsibly and minimize environmental impact.
The guests will have to bring their own tents and will be asked to abide by environmentally-friendly manners during the event. Food will be available for purchase.
Energy for the fest will be provided by sun-powered batteries and recycled vegetable oil.
Guests will be entertained by a number of bands, DJs, performances and games such as a “land-art workshop”, building your own boat (“Mad Duckling”), a drum warehouse and a multitude of other non-traditional ways to engage. There will also be opportunities for biking, kayaking and hiking.
Beglika Fest is part of the efforts of a number of environmental organizations to create an area around the Golyam Beglik dam in which humans can peacefully inhabit and relish nature, and to create opportunities for sustainable and profitable use of natural resources.
