Frenchman Won € 15 Million in a Christmas Raffle
This is the second biggest win in lottery history.
The Bulgarian State Lottery has announced that the person, who hit the record-high jackpot in June, has not come to receive the money.
The sum of BGN 6 575 225, 40 was supposed to be received by a person from the Bulgarian city of Lovech, in a 45-day period, which ended at 5pm Monday.
The Bulgarian State Lottery has decided that the money should be distributed in half to them and to the Bulgarian Sports Ministry.
The State Lottery, however, has proposed to the Council of Ministers and the State Commission on Gambling that its half should be brought back to the game, adding BGN 1 M every time the jackpot falls for three consecutive times.
The leadership of the State Lottery has announced that even though they have recorded profit, they still need money for new techniques.
"The practice in such cases in the EU countries is to give the money for charity. EVen though the state lottery needs a modernization of the system, we have decided to keep it transparent and show that there are no schemes and that the money goes to the players," said Ivo Tonev, head of the Bulgarian State Lottery.
He has added that the decision was also approved by the Sports Minister, Svilen Neykov,
This is not the first case in the Bulgarian Lottery history that a person does not come to receive the money. Years ago, BGN 500 000 have also not been received.
On June 17, the record-high jackpot fell after causing a national frenzy for few weeks. The revenue from all the games of the Bulgarian State Lottery have been almost BGN 4 M.
