The Mayor of Berlin Klaus Wowereit and Bulgarian Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, discussed Thursday future joint projects between the German and the Bulgarian capitals.
The Berlin Mayor is in Bulgaria on the invitation of his Sofia counterpart, Yordanka Fandakova, who was also present at the meeting.
A priority project to be realized by Sofia and Berlin involves insulation of old panel buildings, Wowereit informed while Fandakova added the real details about the project will be ironed out in the fall.
Fandakova appealed to Sofia residents to begin registering their properties in order to benefit from the opportunity, but pointed out each owner must provide their own funding while Berlin’s assistance would involve organizational and technical help.
Sofia is to assist the German capital through its experience in preserving archeological, cultural and historical sites discovered during subway construction.
The two capitals will exchange experts and specialists in the sectors of infrastructure, public transportation, and residential construction. Currently, the City Hall is developing a project to purchase 50 new trolleys and modernize the public transportation management system by the use of EUR 50 M from the EU “Regional Development” program.
