Uruguay and Germany are going to clash Saturday evening in the World Cup 2010 third place play-off at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth.

At the semifinals Uruguay was defeated by the Netherlands 2:3 in a dramatic match Tuesday.

Wednesday the young and aspiring German team was eliminated 0:1 by Spain in the other semifinal.

This is Uruguay's best showing at a World Cup since the 1970 tournament in Mexico, where the team ranked fourth, defeated precisely by today's rivals Germany. Uruguay has two world cups – from 1930 and 1950.

Germany has three World Cup titles – from 1954, 1974 and 1990. In the last World Cup, which Germany hosted in 2006, the team ranked third with a 3:1 win against Portugal at the third place play-off.

Sunday will see the culmination of World Cup 2010 with a face-off between the Netherlands and Spain. Neither team has ever won the trophy.
