Bulgaria’s Cabinet has adopted a decision to guarantee student loans for 2011 amounting to a total of up to BGN 40 M.
The provision will be part of the Student Loan Act, and paves the way for launching a project of the Education Ministry entitled “Providing a State-Guaranteed Loan for Student Credits.”
The new decision replicates the student loan arrangement for 2010 – i.e. providing state guarantees for a total of BGN 40.125 M. 2010 is the first year when university students in Bulgaria can use a state guaranteed loan.
The approval of the student loan guarantees – together with state guarantees for a loan of BGN 88 M of the Regional Development Ministry from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development for renovating bridges in Bulgaria – will be included in Bulgaria’s 2011 draft state budget bill.
