Thanks to her achievements at the Wimbledon tournament, the Bulgarian tennis star Tsvetana Pironkova might become the youngest honorary citizen of her native city Plovdiv.

The mayor of Plovdiv, Slavcho Atanasov, has signed a proposal to the City Council to make the 22-year-old tennis star, who reached Wimbledon's semi-final, an honorary citizen of her native city Plovdiv.

“I expect the councilors to accept my nomination and make Pironkova the youngest honorary citizen fo Plovdiv. She is the first Bulgarian competitor to reach such high level in the oldest and legendary tournament “Wimbledon”, Atanasov said and named Pironkova “the most successful ambassador of Plovdiv and Bulgaria” and her hometown - “the capital of sport”.

The father and coach of the Bulgarian tennis star, Kiril Pironkov, was also been nominated for “Plovdiv's Badge of Honor”.

Atanasov gave Pironkova a copy of a golden rhyton from the Panaguyrishte Treasure and an album with the most famous Bulgarian icons and wished her to be protected by all the saints that were presented there.

“This nomination is such a high honor for me because Plovdiv is my hometown and I love it very much,” Pironkova said, adding that she is continuing her preparation for for the tennis tournament in Palermo, Italy, which starts on July 12.

The tennis club that she competes for, “Lokomotiv”, has announced that Pironkova's family is considering opening a tennis academy, which will be directed by Pironkova herself after she finishes with her competitive activity.

The family, however, has declared it does not have the land for it and the mayor of Plovdiv has suggested that the municipality can provide it.
