The former Bulgarian Economy Minister, Petar Dimitrov, believes the country is heading to an energy war with Russia.
According to Dimitrov, one of the signs for the energy war is the dismissal of the Russian trade representative in Bulgaria. The move came in the aftermath of statements of Bulgaria’s Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, that Bulgaria is pulling out of the Burgas-Alexandroupolis oil line and is freezing the project to build a second nuclear power plant in the Danube town of Belene.
In Dimitrov’s words, the Russian urges on Bulgaria to hurry with South Stream decision are absolutely reasonable.
Bulgaria has to speed up the process of coordination and making corporative decisions on the pipeline, according to a source from the Russian delegation to a meeting on Friday between president Dmitry Medvedev and heads of energy companies involved in South and Nord Stream, as quoted by RIA Novosti.
“There is a lot of competition and they will be very pleased if Bulgaria pulls out of the South Stream project. Russia will get over our decision, and I hope we will too,” Dimitrov said.
