NATO will Deploy Patriot Air Defense Systems in Ukraine
NATO has announced plans to send Patriot air defense systems to the embattled nation
US President Barack Obama has sent a letter to thank Prime Minister Boyko Borisov for Bulgaria's support in Afghanistan.
“I would like to thank you once again for your actions in Afghanistan and for the courage and dedication of your soldiers. Your solid support for NATO's efforts in the region is very important for our success. I also appreciate the fact that you have accepted a Guantanamo inmate,” Obama's letter says.
The US President thanked Borisov for the conversation during their meeting in the Czech Republic in April. The Bulgarian PM, along with 10 other leaders of Eastern European members of NATO, attended a formal dinner hosted by Obama, which focused on the creation of a EU missile shield in Europe.
Bulgaria's position against Iran's uranium enrichment activities was also acknowledged in Obama's letter. At an official meeting in Sofia in May, the Bulgarian Foreign Minister Nikolay Mladenov discussed with his Iranian counterpart Manouchehr Mottaki Bulgaria's concerns about the Iranian nuclear program and the way the authorities in Tehran act with respect to the opposition.
“As I said in our conversation, the Atlantic Charter plays a central role in the protection of our common interests and global security,” Obama writes, expressing hopes for continuing the cooperation between Bulgaria and USA both bilaterally and within NATO.
