The lack of evidence on the part of the Prosecution to prove any connection between The Marguin and the alleged crimes became obvious Monday, according to one of the defense attorneys in the case.
On Tuesday, Lyudmil Rangelov, the lawyer for Nikolay Marinov aka The Little Marguin, said in an interview for the TV channel bTV that the Prosecutors' motives to charge Marinovi with plotting three murders looked childish and naive.
Rangelov pointed out the accusations against the brothers were simply made up, involving a mix of political and business interests, while the individual behind this order had been part of Bulgaria's powerful political elite. The attorney declined to offer further details because the not-guilty verdict is still not effective.
Rangelov explained he did not hear from his client even on Monday when the verdict was announced, saying they have not been in touch for a while.
The Little Marguin was tried in absentia because he disappeared right after the murder of controversial radio host, Bobi Tsankov, amidst allegations he plotted it along with his brother. (Tsankov, who was known for his ties with the mafia and was writing a book about the underground, was gunned down in broad daylight in downtown Sofia on January 5th.)
Rangelov called the words of Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, blaming the unreformed courts for the outcome, dangerous, adding each court must rule based one evidence.
