Teams from the Inspectorate of the City Hall in Bulgaria’s capital Sofia checked Sunday 106 dog owners in two of the most popular parks.

The probe was ordered by Mayor, Yordanka Fandakova, who since the beginning of her term last November, had vowed to deal with the issue of people owning dogs without registration, failing to clean after them, to walk them on a leash or walking them outside designated dog-walking areas.

In the “South Park” 42 dog owners were checked and 15 fined as violators for having unregistered dogs and walking them in banned areas.

64 dog owners were checked in the central park, known as "Borisova Gradina" and fines have been issued for a number of them as well.
