Two Bulgarians, Maxim Behar and Victor Melamed, are going to attend the American Jewish Committee dinner with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Maxim Behar, Bulgarian businessman, PR expert, and member of the Supreme Jewish Council in Bulgaria, and Victor Melamed, Chair of the Federation of Zionists in Bulgaria, are meeting with Clinton Thursday night as part of the annual meeting of the American Jewish Committee (AJC). Behar and Melamed are the only two Bulgarians invited to the annual meeting of the Committee.
“We accept this invitation as a sign of great respect for Bulgaria, and we are certain that within her term as Secretary of State, Mrs. Clinton is going to visit our country for the second time,” said Maxim Behar, who was the press director for Hillary Clinton during her first and only visit to Bulgaria in 1998 in her capacity as the First Lady, together with her husband, President Bill Clinton.
“During this year’s meeting of the American Jewish Committee, there were a lot of extremely good words about Bulgaria, about its history and the tangible changes in the country, as well as about its financial stability in these times of economic hardship,” explained Behar, who is the CEO of the largest Bulgarian public relations company, M3 Communications Group, Inc.
In addition to US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, other top-ranking guests of this year’s meeting of the American Jewish Committee included the Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister of Israel Ehud Barak, Spain’s Foreign Minister Miguel Moratinos, the Foreign Minister of the Netherlands Maxime Verhagen, as well as US Senators and House members.
The American Jewish Committee, a non-partisan US advocacy group founded in 1906, is the oldest human rights organization in the world. Its international members come from among the most prominent representatives of the Jewish communities in their countries.
