Bulgarian authorities found themselves grappling with a peculiar case involving a 60-year-old Ukrainian woman
Bulgaria’s Interior is carrying out another special operation aimed this time at illegal human trafficking and prostitution.
The news was announced Monday by Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, who said that the operation is being conducted with the active participation of the French police and investigators. 7 addresses in the Black Sea city capital of Varna have been searched and 2 individuals arrested.
The Varna police spokesperson informs they are continuing the searches Monday morning.
The operation is realized by the Border Police and a French team and has begun at the end of 2009. According to Tsvetanov, the French authorities have been very interested and only last week 20 girls from Varna, working as prostitutes in Nice, have been arrested, adding illegal trafficking of women between Bulgaria and France had been an alarming trend in the last few years.
“I hope we managed to reinstate the trust of French services in us and the operation will cut the channels once and for ever,” the Minister pointed out.
9 individuals and ringleaders of an organized crime group, controlling prostitution in the Varna region were detained on April 11, among them the brothers Svetlin and Krasen Ivanovi known as The Twins. It is unclear if these arrests are connected with the Monday ones.
