Bulgaria February Trade Index down 19% Y/Y: Bulgaria February Trade Index down 19% Y/Y In February 2010, retail of groceries, beverages and tobacco products in Bulgaria remains close to the February 2009 levels with only a 0.9% decrease. Photo by BGNES

In February 2010 Bulgaria's trade turnover is down nearly 19% year on year, data published by the National Statistics Institute (NSI) shows.

Retail trade registers a decrease of 12%. Retail of groceries, beverages and tobacco products remains close to the February 2009 levels with only a 0.9% decrease, but retail turnover for pharmaceutical products is down 12%, automobile fuels retail is down 13% and retail of computers is down 22%.

Wholesale trade is down nearly 19% with once again a slighter decrease of 7% in the trade groceries, beverages and tobacco products, which is 25% of the total turnover. Wholesale trade of machines, equipment, parts and non-farming products is down 40% and 26% respectively while their share in the total turnover is 40%.
