Bulgaria EU Commissioner, Kristalina Georgieva, will urge EU member states to speed up their work towards the commitments made to Haiti following January’s deadly earthquake.

Georgieva, the Bulgarian EU Commissioner for International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response, is set to appeal to the EU countries to particularly concentrate on their promises to build temporary homes in Haiti and the supply of builiding materials for this purpose.

She is currently on a tour of the most devastated parts of Haiti and was set to fly on to Chile to help EU coordination with the Chilean authorities following Saturday’s earthquake and tsunami there. However, EU foreign minister Catherine Ashton reported that this trip would now be delayed.

Ashton herself, who is also in Haiti, called for a speedy strategic recovery plan for the Caribbean island.
