Bulgarian and Belgian special police officers, who have been trapped in a hotel in Niger’s capital Niamey after Thursday’s coup d’etat, have received a permission to leave the country.
This was announced Friday night by the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry citing the Belgian government crisis center. This development was predicted earlier by Interior Minister Tsvetanov.
The Ministry said the Bulgarian and Belgian officers, who carried out a joint task for repatriating illegal aliens from the EU, have received a permission to take off with their airplane.
Thursday’s coup d’etat in Niger led to the closing of the country’s airspace which made their takeoff impossible.
Ten Bulgarian officers from the special police unit for combating terrorism together with Belgian officers were trapped in a hotel in Niamey awaiting a permission to withdraw from the West African country.
