The Socialist Mayor of Blagoevgrad, Kostadin Paskalev has predicted that current Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov could become a candidate for the position of President.

Speaking in a television interview on PRO.BG on Tuesday, Paskalev stated that this was, ultimately, a possible political scenario.

The former deputy PM and presidential adviser also reminded his audience: "Let us remember that there was a similar situation in 2001,when it was expected that Simeon Saxe-Koburg would run for president".

"We'll see now whether Borisov will prefer the government or to run for president," the socialist mayor added.

According to Paskalev, the policy of the current government and the reshuffling of positions are chaotic and do not bode well for the future.

"Positions in the government last no more than 72 hours. This, I believe, makes for inconsistency of ideas," he commented.

"Rather, there is no clear vision of what should happen in the country," he added.

The Mayor said that he was also concerned about hospital reform, although no facilities were to be closed in the district of Blagoevgrad.

"The Minister of Health claims they will not close municipal hospitals, but de facto with all these actions they are doing exactly that," he stated.

Paskalev further indicated his lack of confidence and optimism about some highway construction and other infrastructure projects of the Borisov cabinet.

"The latest auctions and the most successful were when I was deputy prime minister in 2002," he said, referring to a period when he served as Deputy PM.

"My worry is that there is no consistency, but the country is being swayed, it has no idea what is to happen," he observed.

The Mayor of Blagoevgrad said he believed that Bulgaria needs both left and right alternatives. He expected President Georgi Parvanov to establish a movement with leftist intellectuals.

"What is to happen on the left is that an alternative will be formed," he stated.

Kostadin Paskalev concluded with his categorical belief: "The most important thing in politics is to keep the promises you give to people".
