Putin Aide Claims NATO Provoking Instability in Baltic Region
Russian presidential aide Nikolai Patrushev accused NATO of deliberately escalating tensions in the Baltic region, calling the alliance a threat to Russia’s security.
Former Bulgaria Defense Minister, Nikolay Tsonev, has said that all Ministers from NATO countries who visit Afghanistan will always be a tempting target for the Taliban.
Tsonev, speaking in an interview on PRO.BG, was commenting on Sunday’s Taliban rocket attack on the NATO air base in Kandahar during the visit of Bulgaria Defense Minister Nikolay Mladenov.
He said "Every visit there is always risky, because the Taliban have the opportunity to attack a NATO minister. Therefore, the security measures there are very stringent."
Tsonev explained that during such visits, there are certain rules that must be followed: do not transmit information at the time of visit, the Minister wears protective clothing: bulletproof vest and camouflage clothing to not differ from other soldiers from the contingent and the visit should always be short.
Tsonev concluded that he believes the Taliban attack that injured 4 Bulgarian soldiers was directed personally at Mladenov.
