The Patriarch of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church and Sofia Metropolitan Maxim conducted the Christmas Eve liturgy in Sofia Thursday night.

The service at Alexander Nevsky Cathedral consisted of a liturgy in three parts: the Liturgy of the Proselytes; of the Faithful; and of the Eucharist.

Archimandrite Naum from the Bulgarian Orthodox Church extended his good wishes to Christians for the holiday: "Let us celebrate the Nativity of Christ with open hearts, let Christ come into our souls and in turn let us present our soul-saving nativity fast at the feet of Christ," he announced.

"Our faith is to present Him with our sincere penance, repentance for our sins and each one of us to strive, as far his strength can reach, to follow the gospel bequests of Christ. And, through his life, and his labor, to be able to get closer to Him."

The Christmas Eve service started at 6 pm on Thursday, and was shown live on Bulgarian National Television (BNT). On Friday at 9:30 am the Holy Liturgy of the Nativity will be celebrated at Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.
