Over 50 cm of Snow Hits Vitosha: Mountain Rescue Issues Safety Warning
Vitosha mountain has received over half a meter of fresh snow, creating challenging conditions for movement, the Mountain Rescue Service warned
A total of 130 towns and villages around Bulgaria have seen power outages as a result of the heavy snowfall.
Some of the worst hit regions are the northeastern Dobrich District and the southwestern Kyustendil District.
The outages also affected the elite Sofia quarters Simeonovo, Dragalevtsi, Boyana, and Lozenetz. The work of the emergency teams all around the country is continuing.
Yet, the situation might become worse as meteorologists forecast even heavier snowfall in the coming days.
Around 190,000 students are currently enrolled in Bulgaria’s 51 higher education institutions, 38 of which are public universities and the rest private.
During the night, the weather will remain cloudy, with light rain expected in some areas of Northern and Eastern Bulgaria.
