The European Parliament has approved a EUR 122,9 B EU budget for 2010 including EUR 75 M to Bulgaria for the closure of Soviet-designed reactors 1 to 4 at the Kozloduy nuclear power plant.

It is a 6% increase on the 2009 budget, which was worth EUR 116 B, the BBC reported.

Next year the EU is due to conduct a major review of the budget. In 2010 an extra EUR 2,4 B will go towards economic recovery projects, with the energy sector and broadband development the priorities.

It is part of an overall EUR 5 B in extra economic recovery funding for 2009-2010.

In addition, EUR 300 M is going to help dairy farmers and EUR 75 M is for decommissioning Bulgaria's Kozloduy nuclear plant.
