Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has been ranked 24th out of all state leaders of the 27 EU member state in a ranking organized by the French newspaper “La Tribune.”

The annual ranking of La Tribune evaluates the performance of the 27 EU state leaders through a survey of leading European media.

Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt is ranked No. 1 with a mark of 7,54 out of 10, largely thanks to his efforts for bringing consensus among the EU member states as part of the Swedish EU Presidency.

Luxembourg’s Prime Minister Jean Claude-Juncker is second, largely as a result of his role in fighting the effects of the global financial crisis. German Chancellor Merkel is ranked third thanks to her influential positions on major EU issues.

Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov is 24th with a composite mark of 4,79. Borisov got 5,15 on his team work skills, 4,27 on his leadership, and 3,62 on his work on fighting climate change.

In the 2008 ranking of La Tribune, Bulgaria’s former Prime Minister, Socialist Sergey Stanishev, was ranked 26th out of 27 leaders.

For a second year in a row Italian Prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi, received the lowest grade of all EU leaders – 3,56.

French President, Nicola Sarkozy, who was No. 1 in 2008, dropped down to the 9th place, largely because of his protectionist attempts contradicting the EU Common Market rules.

The La Tribune ranking surveyed journalists from media from all EU member states, who evaluated the state leaders on a number of criteria – including leadership, team work, fighting climate change, measures against the financial crisis, attitude towards the Lisbon Treaty, and general commitment to issues on the EU agenda.
