Over 3,200 Euro Law Inspections in Bulgaria Reveal Less Than 10% Violations

Bulgarian music stars Lili Ivanova and Vasil Naydenov are among the first 16 singers who are being investigated by the National Revenue Agency (NRA) for tax evasion, the Agency confirmed Tuesday.
Pop-folk (chalga) singers Azis, Gloria, Ivana, Gloria, Kamelia, Anelia, Emilia, Malina, Maria, Veronica, Gergana, Raina, Sylvia and Reni are also being investigated by the NRA.
At present it is known that three of the reviewed singers did not submit tax returns in 2009.
One of the most popular folk singers in Bulgaria, according to official documents drives an 11-year-old Volkswagen. The luxury vehicles that the chalga singers drive are mostly owned by ‘friends’. Most of the pop-folk stars have also declared that they only own one 50-60 sqm property.
Over the coming week the NRA will identify other representatives of the entertainment business that will be inspected. Except for the Chalga singers, pop, rock and rap circles will also be delved into.
NRA spokesperson Rosen Bachvarov stated that there were signs that many singers and musicians were declaring only a fraction of their true earnings.
