Former Social Minister, Hristina Hristova, is the new leader of NMSP, the party of former Tsar and Prime Minister, Simeon Saxe-Coburg.

Hristova was elected as leader of the National Movement for Stability and Prosperity (NMSP) by the party special congress which convened Saturday.

Hristova's main opponent, the former Minister of Economy and then Transport in the NMSP cabinet and Minister of State Administration in the three-party coalition cabinet, Nikolay Vasilev, ranks second by the number of votes,.

Hristova received 404 out of 708 votes while Vasilev has 231.

The former Member of the European Parliament, Biliyana Raeva, and the NMSP Deputy Chair, Iliya Lingorski have respectively 33 and 40 votes.

The new NMSP leader stated that the road ahead is difficult and the work hard and declared that for NMSP the ruling Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) party is the main rival while the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) - main opponent.

NMSP is categorically distancing itself from its former coalition partners,” Hristova says.

In addition to electing new leader, the 708 delegates will vote on amending the party code.

The party failed to win any parliamentary seats during the July general elections despite being in power for two terms. Simeon Saxe-Coburg resigned as leader in the election’s aftermath.

Saxe-Coburg, who attended the congress, said he would not accept even the honorary NMSP leader post and would not run to become Bulgaria’s next president.
