Gas Leak Emergency in Karnobat: People Seek Medical Assistance
A new report of a gas leak in Karnobat has sparked concern among residents and authorities, as emergency services rush to address the situation
The former undercover agent of the Bulgarian National Security Agency DANS, Aleksei Petrov, announced Thursday night he had revealed to the special Parliamentary Committee all the secret information he knew about backstage scenarios in the country.
“I am have revealed what I know about this post-totalitarian model of eliminating competition or opponents through discrediting, and as a last resort – through physical elimination,” Petrov declared on his way out of his hearing at the Parliamentary Committee for controlling DANS.
“There have been attempts to eliminate this vicious model, and this happened over the last year and a half. But I am afraid now that this model will now be restored,” Aleksei Petrov said.
After the hearing, the former agent stated his trust for the Committee Chair, former PM Ivan Kostov, had increased compared to what it was before he went in.
Petrov declined to comment on the actions and situations of the former Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev and of his successor Boyko Borisov.
He dismissed the allegations that DANS structures had been taken over by organized crime groups, including many agents, and had been used for racketeering activities.
In August 2008, there was an internal conflict in the Agency; this is when the serious work on the high-level corruption and organized crime started,” Petrov explained.
The DANS Parliamentary Committee chaired by Ivan Kostov is supposed to investigate the activities of the controversial and scandal-tainted National Security Agency, which was set up in January 2008 by pooling three previously independent intelligence institutions.
