Inspector Atanas Ilkov, from the Bulgarian ‘Criminal Police’, reported that Bulgarian thieves target luxury brands in Spain such as Porsche, Mercedes and BMW and then transfer the cars through Turkey, Greece, the Ukraine and Moldova due to the strengthened borders in Bulgaria.
Ilkov reported that that Bulgarians are still the most numerous in the car thievs in Spain despite the economic crisis.
Ilkov concluded that there are a number of criminal groups working in Bulgaria regarding this business but he also added that they are working separately from each other and are not under the control of a few big bosses like they used to be.
