The Bulgarian government is set to take legal action against former Tsar and PM, Simeon Saxe-Coburg to confiscate 4 521 decares of forest that were ‘returned’ to him.

The forest in question was given to Saxe-Coburg after a decision of the Land Commission in Samokov. A report given Friday to Bulgaria PM BoykoBorisov by the working group attached to the Forest Agency suggested that the government should take legal action to confiscate the land after working on the case for months.

In the report it is suggested that before the forest was returned to Saxe-Coburg it had already been excluded from the forestry fund, meaning that it was state land that could receive building permission, Sega daily newspaper reported.

Saxe-Coburg’s press office stated that his lawyer, Eli Hristova, is currently on holiday, but will comment on the issue when she returns.

The problem with the ex-Tsar’s forests began on January 16, 2008 when the Sofia Regional Prosecutor's Office announced it had discovered an error by the Land Commission in Samokov in which Saxe-Coburg was awarded twice the amount of forest he had applied for after title deeds from 1930 and 1900 were submitted.
