The Bulgarian Health Ministry has confirmed that it has registered the first case of death from swine flu after a 30-year-old man died in Sofia.
The Health Ministry stated Wednesday that a 30-year-old man from Samokov died in Lozonets Hospital in Sofia on Wednesday.
The man first showed symptoms of the AH1N1 virus on September 19 and was transferred from Samokov to hospital in Sofia on September 23. There two days later he suffered a bout of double pneumonia and died.
A total of 5 people are being kept in quarantine after coming into contact with the man. None of them have swine fu symptoms.
A total of 78 swine flu cases have been registered in Bulgaria and 174 fatalities have been registered in the EU as a result of the virus.
