The increased Bulgarian border control has resulted in the decreased of the number of immigrants in the country.

The Bulgarian Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, announced this Monday at a session of the European Union's Council of Justice and Home Affairs.

The main topic of the Mondays meeting was accepting citizens of third countries in the EU borders.

In Tsvetanov's words, since 2007 the number of immigrants has decreased from 674 to 265 so far in 2009.

Bulgaria, at this moment, does not have the potential to accept and integrate citizens of third countries, who have asked for a sanctuary. Currently, there are no quota, and Bulgaria has not been asked to take some of the immigrants, who want to stay in the EU.
