Bulgarian Capital Sees Huge Traffic Jams on 1st Day of School
Huge traffic jams have been reported Monday morning in the Bulgarian capital Sofia with the opening of the 2012 – 2013 school year.
The City Hall is organizing a number of events over the course of 10 days to mark September 17, the Day of Sofia.
The performances will include classical music, rock and Latin folklore.
The celebration will open on September 10 with a photo exhibit of French photographer, Isabelle Lebastard, titled "Vitoshka Reflections." The exhibit is organized in partnership with the French Embassy and will be on display in the park in front of the National "Ivan Vazov" Theater.
A "Latin Fiesta," organized by the popular "Pambos Dancing Center," is scheduled for September 12 in front of the National Palace of Culture.
The Sofia Festival "Crossroads of the Muses" will take place on September 12 and 13 while a rock stage "The City and I" opens on September 15 in Sofia's South Park.
The "Young Talents" classical music festival is scheduled for September 12-20 in the "Bulgaria" Hall.
The culmination of the celebrations is on September 17 with a performance and awards ceremony at the National Theater when the Town Hall will bestow its awards for artistic achievements.
The events close on September 18, at the National Palace of Culture, with a concert to include many popular Bulgarian pop singers.
