The Jehovah's Witnesses in Bulgaria sent Thursday a letter to the media denying any connection with the savage ritual murder of their follower, Elena Tomova.

Tomova's body was discovered Tuesday by her son-in law in her faraway villa in the village of Vlado Trichkov, near the town of Svoge, northeast of Sofia.

The murderer choked her to death, cut a cross with a knife on her body, cut off her left breast, wrapped her in her bed as if she was sleeping, and finally drew a cross on her head with blood as well as crosses all around the house.

In the letter, the Jehovah's Witnesses express their pain caused by Tomova's loss and extend condolences to her family and close ones.

"The perpetrator or perpetrators of this crime must be held accountable for their cruel and inexcusable actions and we are collaborating with the investigation by any possible means. Regretfully, such atrocities happen not only in Bulgaria, but all over the world," the letter reads.

It further points out that the Jehovah's Witnesses is legally registered in Bulgaria as a religious institution with over 3,000 followers and supporters and that its 7 million members around the world are known as peaceful people, who love God and others.

The letter is signed by Hristo Nikolov, representative of the Jehovah's Witnesses in Bulgaria, who points out that truthful information about them can be found on their official websites at www.watchtower.org and www.jw-media.org.

Tomova is known to have been a devoted follower of Jehovah's Witnesses and the residents of the village are convinced that the murder has to do with her involvement with the religious sect.
