Greece's position on the Macedonia name dispute has hardened, which makes it likely that it will veto the EU entry of the Republic of Macedonia.

This has been stated by Macedonia's Foreign Minister, Antonio Miloshoski, has stated in an interview for Reuters, as cited by the BGNES news agency.

Miloshoski believes that Greece has become firmer in its position on the Macedonia dispute as it was in April 2008, when Greece vetoed Macedonia's NATO accession during the Bucharest Summit.

The only change in Greece's attitude has been for the worse, and Macedonia is worried about the possibility of a second Greek veto, this time on the start of the negotiations for EU accession, Miloshovski is quoted as saying.

Greece's EU Affairs Secretary, Dimitros Katsudas, who attended a regional security forum in Slovenia together with Miloshoski, has said he was not optimistic that the name dispute would be resolved soon.

Both sides are expecting a proposal for a new solution by the UN Special Envoy, Matthew Nimetz.
