Bulgaria: Ukrainian Forces Fought against Russia in 2008 War with Georgia Russian soldiers march during a parade during a visit of Russia's President Dmitry Medvedev to their unit in Vladikavkaz, Russia, 08 August 2009, marking the first year since Georgia's war with Russia over breakaway South Ossetia.

The Ukrainian military fought against Russia in the five-day war with Georgia over South Ossetia.

This was announced Monday by the General Prosecutor's Office of Russia, BGNES reported.

"Members of the Ukrainian armed forces participated in the aggression of the Georgian military against South Ossetia," the investigative committee of the Office announced in a communique.

The Russian Prosecutor's Office does not specify the exact number of Ukrainian military officers that it believes took part in the fighting but says that 200 members of the Ukrainian nationalist movement UNA-UNSO also took part in the "aggression" against South Ossetia.

The announcement stresses that during the time of conflict, the Russian military captured land-air rockets "Buk-M" and "Osa-AK", registered in the Ukraine.

This is not the first time that Russia has accused Ukraine of supplying arms to the Georgian military, and that Ukrainians took part in the fighting; but it is the first time Russia states that members of Ukraine's regular armed forces were involved.
