A Bulgarian military contingent is going to guard the Kabul airport per the proposal of Defense Minister, Nikolay Mladenov.

The new cabinet is expected to approve the proposal during its regularly scheduled weekly meeting.

The 210 rangers will be, most likely, sent to Afghanistan on October 1.

The change of the parameters of the Bulgarian mission in Afghanistan is imposed by the change of the main tasks of the regional command. The Bulgarian company will be assigned to provide security and protection of several sectors of the international airport, which is a strategic facility of prime importance as the main entrance and exit point for the NATO forces in the area.
