At least two Civil Guard officers have been killed by a car bomb blast outside a barracks in the west of the Spanish island of Majorca,

The vehicle parked near the facility in Palmanova exploded shortly before 2 pm local time, close to Marivent Palace, where Spain's royal family is staying, officials say, as cited by the BBC

The blast comes a day after a car bomb targeted a barracks in the mainland city of Burgos, injuring 46 people.

Police blamed the Basque separatist group, Eta, for Wednesday's attack.

Eta, which has been blamed for more than 820 deaths during its 40-year campaign for an independent Basque nation, will again be the focus of police inquiries, BBC's correspondent in Spain commented.
