Bulgaria's Pension Duration Among Shortest in the EU
Bulgaria holds the distinction of having the shortest average pension duration among European Union nations
The 9% increase of Bulgaria's pensions for people who have retired before March 31 became effective Wednesday.
With the increase the minimum pension for years of age and service becomes BGN 136 while the average pension in the country will reach BGN 261 in July.
The social pension for years of age is also going up - from BGN 92,53 to BGN 100,86.
The new pensions will be paid beginning July 7 until July 20.
The National Insurance Fund reported Wednesday that the cash amounts are available and the payments will be made on time.
The retirees will not receive notices in the mail about the new amount. Such notices will be issued only upon written request after July 7.
