Bulgaria's Foreign Minister, Ivaylo Kalfin, held a meeting with the father of the kids involved in the highly publicized custody battle between their Bulgarian father and Polish mother.
Kalfin voiced before Todor Vasilev, the father of 8-year-old Nikoleta and 7-year-old Pavel, disappointment and indignation from how the case was handled and made the commitment to probe it further and identify ways to provide competent legal protection to the father.
"There are many similar cases; they are resolved with the means of the "quiet diplomacy" and this is why they remain outside public awareness. The Foreign Ministry had a great success record in solving such cases for the benefit of the Bulgarian side," members of Kalfin's team further stated for the media.
The dramatic custody battle between the Polish mother and the Bulgarian father entered the media spotlight on May 28 when the mother attempted to seize the 8-year-old Nikoleta and 7-year-old Pavel from their father.
The parents are separated, but not divorced. The children refused to leave with their mother, which led to the involvement of the local police, court authorities and a representative of the social services in the town.
A fight broke out while the authorities attempted to take the children. Pavel managed to escape and his whereabouts are unknown.
