The salaries for mid-level positions, the ones requiring specific qualities and skills, but not expert knowledge, are the highest in Sofia and Varna.
The information was revealed Wednesday by the Biggest Cities Review of Industry Watch.
According to data, collected in May 2009, the salary differences between the capital and the other major Bulgarian cities are not as significant for mid-level jobs as they are for the low level ones.
As example, mid-level salaries in the Danube city of Ruse are 14% less compared to Sofia.
On the other hand side, the purchasing power of 1 BGN is 10 times higher in Ruse and Bulgaria's second largest city - Plovdiv than in Sofia. The cost of living remains the highest in Sofia and the lowest in Shumen and Targovishte.
The mid-level positions are those allowing the employee to easily switch companies and even sectors. A mid-level worker has basic English skills, is between 25 and 45 years of age and can adapt quickly in new environment, according to the Industry Watch experts.
In major Bulgarian cities real estate remains underpriced compared to Sofia when prices are measured by the amount of labor. In all cities, in the exception of the Black Sea capital Varna, people work less to acquire a residence than in Sofia. For example, in Stara Zagora, housing prices are 35% less compared to the capital if they are measured by the labor amount.
