Bulgaria's biggest shipping companies, Navigation Maritime Bulgare, and Bulgarian River Shipping will bid for the Varna-Port Kavkaz ferry line.

Russia determined the company that will ship containers on the line a month ago, the Pari Daily reminded.

The ferry line should be fully operational before the end of June, 2009. The first test run was made in the beginning of March, 2009.

After the ferry is launched the price for rail transportation of cargo will decrease by USD 500 per freight-car.

The reason for the dramatic fall in prices is that the Ukraine's monopoly over Bulgaria-Russia cargo exchange will be broken.

In March, 2009, Bulgaria's Transport Minister, Petar Mutafchiev, stated that nearly 500 000 tons of cargo will be transported each year, adding that, according to experts, by the year 2013, the loads' volume could go up three times - to 1 500 000 tons.
