A video released Friday by the Serbian magazine "Vreme" has revealed violent beating at an Orthodox Church run rehabilitation center.

The video shows how a young men, who is a patient at the Crna Reka rehabilitation facility close to Novi Pazar in Southern Serbia, is being beaten with a shovel, and punched and kicked by two men in sports gear, the BBC reported.

The beating shown in the video is taking place at a room with Orthodox Christian icons.

The priests at the facility have told the Serbian TV channel B92 that the beating was part of their therapy. According to a former patient of the center, one of the priests had been practicing martial arts while beating the patients.

The case has caused a public outrage and is under investigation; the Serbian Orthodox Church has declined to comment.
